The Wyżynna Gate was built together with a ring of modern bastion fortifications. Formerly it was the main entrance to the city. In the upper part of the gate there are three coats of arms: in the middle the coat of arms of Poland, on the right the coat of arms of Gdańsk, on the left that of Royal Prussia. The gate, surrounded by impressive ramparts, really made an impression of being difficult to conquer. Opposite the main entrance there was a drawbridge thrown over a fairly deep moat, intended for carts and horsemen. Two smaller passages were equipped with footbridges. Using special chains the whole was lifted up in the evening hours.
