The Great Armoury

also called the arsenal, is the most magnificent secular building of Mannerist architecture in Gdansk. It was inspired by the Meat Halls in Haarlem. It is the work of one of the most prominent architects of Gdansk of that era, Antoni van Obberghen. It was built of fine red Dutch brick decorated with sandstone ornaments and rich gilding. The structure gives the impression that the building consists of four, seemingly separate tenements.
