One of the most beautiful buildings in Gdansk (1609-17), built in the Renaissance style according to Abraham van den Blocke’s project for Mayor J. Speymann, a rich merchant and enlightened patron of the arts. The façade, richly decorated with sculptures, formerly richly gilded (hence its name), depicts the heads of rulers and commanders, battle scenes and the coats of arms of the founders.
