The Old Town Hall was built at the end of the 16th century in the Dutch Mannerist style. Its creator was Antoni van Obberghen. Erected for the authorities of the Old Town, for many centuries it was a place where the political, economic, scientific and social life of that part of the city concentrated. The famous Gdańsk scientist and astronomer John Hevelius was associated with the Old Town Hall. He performed the functions of a juror and the first councillor, and stored the beer he produced in the Town Hall cellars.
